Fishing at Playas Pacificas
|
|
Some 30 miles directly west of Playas Pacifics and Rancho La Aguja, unreachablefrom Los Cabos due to distance (and thus unexploited), are the seamounts named the Lusitania Banks. Due to their inaccessibility, the Banks offers one of the most untouched fishing areas in all of Baja – and Rancho La Aguja has a sheltered beach well-suited to surf-launching, together with beach support facilities. This area of the Pacific offers rewarding beach fishing – if you know the best spots -- and the shallow waters teem with the shrimp, lobster and oysters that provide a living for the local fisherman based at Punta Marquez -- a source of daily catch fresher than any you will find in La Paz! (Just be there between 2 and 3pm). Cabrilla, roosterfish, sierra, and snapper are found in the shallower coastal water. Further out to sea, seasonal yellowfin tuna, yellowtail, dorado, wahoo and other game fish gather, together with jigged species such as pargo and halibut. September to November are the months for the striped marlin action -- the Thetis Banks outside Magdalena Bay just to the north of Playas Pacificas are world-famous. |
